Founded in 1974, Rape Victim Advocates (RVA) is an independent,not-for-profit organization dedicated to the healing and empowerment of sexual assault survivors through non-judgmental crisis intervention counseling; individual and group counseling; and medical and legal advocacy in the Chicago metropolitan area. RVA also provides public education and institutional advocacy in order to improve the treatment of sexual assault survivors and to effect positive changes in policies and public attitudes toward sexual assault. Today RVA has the largest medical advocacy program in Chicago, providing 24/7 crisis intervention services for survivors of rape in 12 Chicago hospital emergency rooms. In the past 35 years, we have provided direct services to over 26,000 women, men and children. We have also provided prevention education and professional training to more than 55,000 students, medical and criminal justice personnel and community members.
